Oral surgery can assist you in many ways to improve your dental health. However, they can also be uncomfortable and painful.

It is vital to care for your oral health to ensure a painless, comfortable, and easy recovery. If you recently had oral surgery for dental implants or wisdom teeth removal, you must know simple ways to care for your dental health post-surgery. It will help if you contact a dentist regarding aftercare of oral surgeon Brooklyn.

Tips for recovering after an oral surgery procedure:

    • Do not panic

Some patients may tend to panic and become over-cautious after oral surgery. However, staying calm and dealing with dental health efficiently will be best. Being too cautious and performing actions such as brushing aggressively or flossing more times than recommended can lead to unexpected problems.

It will help you stay calm, focus on resting, and avoid intense physical activities. You should use a pillow and relax your head and keep it elevated post-surgery to reduce the chances of swelling or bleeding. Take your sedatives and avoid strenuous activity.

    • Follow the instructions provided by your dentist.

One of the simplest ways to care for your dental health after oral surgery is by following your dentist’s instructions. Your surgeon will likely advise you to avoid mouthwash post-surgery as it can cause sensitivity and swelling.

Additionally, the surgeon may recommend you brush very gently around the areas where the surgery has been performed. As a result, you must follow each instruction the surgeon gives, as it can quickly reduce the chances of any further dental issues.

    • Focus on your diet.

Diet plays a significant role in preserving your dental and overall health. After oral surgery, it will be helpful for you to focus on your diet. It would help to try eating soft foods or a liquid diet for a few days after the surgery.

It can help to include soups, yogurt, smoothies, and fruit milkshakes in your daily intake as they promote healing and recovery. It would help to include foods rich in vitamins A and C. For example, you can eat fish, eggs, mashed potatoes, or carrots to increase vitamin intake.

    • Do not neglect bleeding or blood clots.

Bleeding is a common problem occurring after oral surgery. You may experience bleeding for the first few days after the dental procedure. It would be best to try using gauze to reduce and stop the bleeding. If your bleeding does not control, you should promptly contact your dentist.

In some cases, you may also experience a blood clot. It will be advisable for you not to disturb or intervene with the blood clot as it will heal automatically. You should avoid using a straw, smoking, and consuming alcohol for at least two to four weeks after the surgery.
