    Breast Implant Revision Warning Signals

Breast implants typically need to be replaced between 10 and 20 years after insertion, although there are a number of situations in which this is not possible.

A breast implant revision can help if your original breast augmentation did not produce the results you wanted if you developed issues from your implants, or if you saw your natural breast skin sagging and aging after your initial procedure. You can speak to cleveland plastic surgery institute to learn more.

Common warnings that you may need surgical correction.

    • You are experiencing pain or discomfort because of your breast implants.

Breast implant revision surgery may be necessary if you experience pain or discomfort from your implants due to capsular contracture, lymph node damage, a seroma, pinched nerves, or improper implant placement. Pain after getting silicone implants could indicate a rupture or leak.

Some individuals have significant discomfort from their implants, even if there is no underlying medical problem causing the pain. This is especially true if the implant is either excessively large or poorly placed.

    • The implant in your breast has burst open.

The rupture of an implant can result from either external forces acting suddenly or intensely (as in a vehicle accident) or internal stresses brought on by the implant’s advanced age.

A saline implant rupture is easy to detect since it causes a rapid reduction in breast size. The implant contains a saline solution that is readily absorbed by the body, just like IV fluid.

When a silicone implant ruptures, the silicone gel inside the implant progressively leaks out, making diagnosis impossible without an ultrasound or MRI.

    • You have hit bottom with your breast implant.

Bottoming out occurs when a breast implant gradually sinks below the breast crease because the skin and tissue surrounding it are unable to support it. Large or heavy implants are more likely to bottom out, but pregnancies after surgery and aging skin can also play a role.

    • The breast implant in your chest is shifting or turning.

It is natural for breast implants to shift position ever so slightly as time passes. Implants should not shift to an obviously different spot on the chest wall. Implant displacement occurs when an implant moves from its original position.

    • A new form has taken over your breast implant.

If an implant breaks, moves, spins, bottoms out, or is displaced in any way, its shape may alter.

Implant form changes often only affect one breast at a time. There is no guarantee that both implants will have the same degree of form alteration. Although this asymmetry poses no health risks, it can be emotionally taxing for patients and challenge shopping for bras and other apparel.
