Dental restorations are common procedures that help restore weak, decayed, or broken teeth. Dental crowns are one such form of artificial prosthesis that can restore your oral form, function, and aesthetics.

The Woodlands dental crowns offered by highly skilled dental specialists use advanced technology. The customized dental crowns offer excellent durability, with enhanced patient satisfaction.

    What are dental crowns?

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that fits snugly over your tooth surface. These are fabricated to replace a badly decayed, broken, or worn-out tooth. Dental technicians craft crowns from a variety of materials, including resin, metal, or porcelain.

    Types of dental crowns

There are a variety of dental crowns based on the material used:

    • Metal crowns
    • Porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns
    • Pressed ceramic crowns
    • All-ceramic or porcelain crowns
    • All-resin crowns
    • Same day crowns

When would your dentist recommend a dental crown?

Dental crowns serve many purposes. Your dentist may recommend a dental crown to:

    • Strengthen a weak tooth
    • Protect and support a cracked tooth
    • Restore a broken tooth
    • Cover severely stained teeth (aesthetic purpose)
    • Cover a root-canal-treated tooth
    • Cover a dental implant
    • Hold a dental bridge securely

What are the advantages of all-ceramic dental crowns?

Currently, all-ceramic or porcelain crowns are often preferred by dentists worldwide owing to the following benefits:

    • Mimic your natural teeth
    • Porcelain is biocompatible and completely safe
    • Provide good durability
    • Enhances your overall appearance
    • These are super affordable
    • These fit better than metal crowns
    • Preserves most of the natural tooth structure (minimal tooth preparation required)
    • Improves masticatory function and speech
    • Highly stain-resistant
    • Does not require extensive aftercare precautions

What happens during a dental crown procedure?

Getting a dental crown may usually require two visits.

    Procedure

    • During the first visit your dentist will evaluate your affected tooth and necessary X-rays will be taken.
    • Your dentist will administer local anesthesia to numb the tooth and ease your discomfort.
    • The tooth will be prepared according to the type of dental crown recommended.
    • Full mouth impressions will be taken and sent to the lab to fabricate the crown.
    • A temporary crown will be placed until you receive a permanent one.
    • During the second visit, your dentist will fix the crown permanently using dental cement.
    • The bite will be checked and required adjustments or corrections will be made.

    Aftercare

    • Brush and floss your teeth regularly
    • Use an antibacterial mouthwash to eliminate or prevent plaque accumulation
    • Avoid extremely hard or crunchy foods
    • Get regular dental cleanings at least once in 6 months

Dental crowns are excellent prostheses that can restore your decayed or damaged teeth. This greatly saves your teeth from extractions
